Company

Our mission is to create an inclusive community through programs and community revitalization initiatives while also diverting reusable building materials from landfills.

DON ReClaim! was established in November 2019, after being a community wish for over 20 years. The journey started in the basement of the Central Building in New Castle, PA — a five-story building that once thrived as Pennsylvania’s Department of Vital Records office. Recognizing the community's need for affordable and reusable building materials, DON Enterprises decided to take on this much-needed initiative. DON ReClaim! is a deconstruction and re-use retail store that salvages building materials to resell. The store also provides entry-level jobs in deconstruction, retail sales, inventory management, durable medical equipment, virtual sales, and customer service.

Deconstruction & Salvage

Deconstruction is a new term to describe an old process — the selective dismantling or removal of materials from buildings before or instead of conventional demolition, according to the US Environmental Protection Agency.

Deconstructing buildings amplifies the marketplace for used goods, helps create new jobs, and limits new materials production.

Deconstruction gives used building materials a “new life” when a building has been decommissioned by harvesting what would have become “waste” in a conventional demolition process. Many components from old buildings are still valuable and are sometimes more valuable than at the time of original construction. Materials may be salvaged or reused in their original form or recycled into something new.

Durable Medical Equipment (DME)

The DME ReUse Program takes in donations of gently used equipment, sanitizes it, and redistributes it to people in need. The equipment must be beneficial and safe for someone to use. Reuse programs create an opportunity for those who need assistive devices to obtain them at a low cost. An added “green” benefit is keeping usable equipment out of landfills.

These efforts help to get useful devices out of attics and garages and into the hands of people with disabilities who need them. Items such as walkers, manual and power wheelchairs, transfer chairs, raised toilet seats, tub benches, reacher tools, and any other equipment that helps with independence may be accepted.

This program is supported in part by Technology for Our Whole Lives (TechOWL). TechOWL is the Commonwealth's Assistive Technology Act Program at the Institute on Disabilities and Temple University. The program is funded through a grant from the Administration on Community Living and the US Department of Health and Human Services.

Available items can be reserved and picked up from our DON ReClaim! location or arrangements can be made for pickup from DON’s offices in Jeanette or Penn Hills.
