Hemp Home

DON Enterprises received multiple grants from the Commonwealth Specialty Crop Block Grant for Project PA Hemp Home. These grants support research, testing, and an application to the International Construction Code for hempcrete building materials. DON, in collaboration with the PA Housing Research Center at Penn State University and Parsons School of Design Healthy Materials Lab in New York City, is renovating a blighted property using hempcrete. Hempcrete is a non-structural, bio-composite insulation material made from non-toxic industrial hemp hurd, lime binder, and water that was applied in a plastering application.

PA Hemp Home

The Hemp Home is located at 506 Spruce Street, New Castle, PA 16101.

DON Enterprises is looking to invest in a hemp fiber decortication facility to support western Pennsylvania farmers to grow hemp for its fiber. The hemp fiber can then be used in plastic injection molding processes, non-woven applications such as car door interior panels, as well as for textiles and paper products.
