Current Projects

DON Enterprises administers multiple home repair and home accessibility modification grants across several counties in western Pennsylvania. Recently, DON committed $140,000 to home modifications. The Lawrence County Redevelopment Authority provided funds for property renovations and new home builds. The Lawrence County Land Bank provided properties. Lowes provided discounted materials. DON committed funding for the new home builds. Eckles Architecture and RCI Co. provided all the home designs. The county and city demolished several homes in the area and assisted in providing initial properties marked for renovation. DON also worked on leveraging our current funds, so we could have a greater impact on the area.

The first two rehabbed properties are now occupied. 204 Mulberry St. was a total rehabilitation and is now one of DON's Nursing Home Transition (NTH) houses. An individual who wanted out of a nursing home has been living there. 720 Court St was another total rehabilitation and was given to an individual on a PA Waiver.

DON is determined to help individuals on a waiver become homeowners, as they face greater barriers to accessible and affordable housing. Those individuals are at higher risk of living in substandard housing or being institutionalized. The new homeowners are provided with both pre and post-home ownership counseling and must have an employment goal. Additionally, individuals receive employment services and intensive budget training. Combining housing with employment provides individuals with a solid foundation to build upon. This will increase an individual’s independence and well-being while decreasing the costs of insurance and other governmental resources.
